Utrecht Olive Green oil paint
This month I get to sing praises to the versatility of Utrecht Olive Green oil paint.
I do a lot of glazing when I paint, so what I look for in a tinting color is a full range of pigment saturation. The pigment grind is fine enough to get a 5% pigment to 95% medium. What does that mean? I can mix glazes that are nearly transparent with out clumping of pigment. This quality lends itself to great control over smooth shadows and realistic modeling by being able to layer transparent color over transparent color, creating elegant transitions between shadows and full lush darks.
One other quality of oil paint, I like, is the ability of a pigment to create random organic shapes when thinner is dripped on to the surface of wet paint. This is a technique used in abstract painting. Opaque colors do this well, very few translucent colors have this ability, Utrecht Olive Green oil paint does! It leaves beautiful detailed branches and bushes of color. All I can say is try it and you will see what I mean.
Last but not least this is an earth color, a series 2. Priced around $ 6.50, it is a must for your color collection. Believe me, you would have a heck of a time trying to mix the color yourself.
Utrecht Olive Green oil paint not only my choice for product of the month, but a paint that exemplifies Utrecht’s commitment to quality products.
