Color and Painting Class at the Frye Art Museum
Understand color from the inside out as painter, printmaker, and colorist Betty Merken presents an indepth class on color and its use in painting. Students explore the color spectrum and basic principles of color theory though a series of exercises in which they create color wheels and mix tints, shades, tones, and complementary scales of various colors. Students also explore the history of pigment and the color palettes of various artists used throughout the ages through in-gallery discussions and a PowerPoint lecture. Students apply various color relationships discussed and practiced in class as they create a series of small still-life paintings.
