Utrecht GALLERY!

 Galery window
We wanted to show your art!

Denis Fitzpatrick came up with a great idea, make our Pike street  facing window a place to show art.

So come in and drop off a bio, images and a show resume, or you can leave a comment on the blog with your website link. The images must be indicative of what you want to show, please, do not bring in the actual works. Due to the nature of the space we are looking for 4 to 7, works  24″x24″ or larger, ready to hang.  Shows are bi-monthly.

Come on by to find out more, ask for Denis or Chris.

Shawn Beesley
Shawn’s art is currently hanging in the Utrecht window. His paintings depict everyday life from a minds eye. Each work is another potentially epic day of life. Shawn makes paper cut outs, glues them to canvas and then paints with acylics. This method gives a low relief 3d realism to the work.

All you have to to is walk by to see the work! YEAH STREET ART!

Utrecht Product of the Month

Utrecht Olive Green oil paint
Utrecht Olive Green oil paint

This month I get to sing praises to the versatility of Utrecht Olive Green oil paint.
I do a lot of glazing when I paint, so what I look for in a tinting color is a full range of pigment saturation. The pigment grind is fine enough to get a 5% pigment to 95% medium. What does that mean? I can mix glazes that are nearly transparent with out clumping of pigment. This quality lends itself to great control over smooth shadows and realistic modeling by being able to layer transparent color over transparent color, creating elegant transitions between shadows and full lush darks.
One other quality of oil paint, I like, is the ability of a pigment to create random organic shapes when thinner is dripped on to the surface of wet paint. This is a technique used in abstract painting. Opaque colors do this well, very few translucent colors have this ability, Utrecht Olive Green oil paint does! It leaves beautiful detailed branches and bushes of color. All I can say is try it and you will see what I mean.
Last but not least this is an earth color, a series 2. Priced around $ 6.50, it is a must for your color collection. Believe me, you would have a heck of a time trying to mix the color yourself.
Utrecht Olive Green oil paint not only my choice for product of the month, but a paint that exemplifies Utrecht’s commitment to quality products.

The Strangers, Poster of the Week show. Art/Conflict of Interest

Art/Conflict of Interest

The Stranger, news paper in Seattle, has a month long exhibition at the:
Vermilion, 1508 11th Ave, 709-9797. 4 pm–late, free. Through April 2
The Poster of The Week show is a powerful, seductive, COLORFUL, exhibition of some of Seattle’s best poster artists. This show focuses on Seattle’s underground music history from 2004 to present. These posters are collector quality, thick paper multi-color, dynamic works, some are even hand pulled by the artists themselves. ALL OF THE WORK IS GOOD!
Dan and his postersradiohead.jpgparini2.jpg

Two artists that stand out Chris Rollins and Dan Paulus have more then a couple works on display.  Dan’s Style focuses on the feel of the music, ranging from punky, horror show to elegant. Consistency of craftsmanship is his trademark. He has been a Seattle musician for 20 years founding such bands as PARINI, the dark powerful WALRUS and the elusive dream project called ORIFICE.

Chris Rollins style is based on cereal boxes from the 70s. His colors and composition are dynamic. Each of the prints are hand rubbed relief on BFK cover paper. These are great additions to anyone’s print collection.

As you can see, my photos don’t do the work justice. That’s just more of a reason to see the show in person besides the fact the the Vermilion serves food and drinks.

So make a date of it and see the show!
